Residential Building in Viseu
76 helical piles for a building in clays with a very high water table.
In Viseu, Rotopile built the foundation for a two-storey residential building with a basement, as an alternative to a conventional micropile solution.
The main challenge was the very high water table, in clayey ground. 76 helical piles were installed, in Ø114.3 × 9.0 mm, with one or two helices and lengths between 5 and 7.5 metres, matched location by location to the ground conditions.
Turned in by rotation, with no excavation and no open bores, the piles were not held up by the water: there was no need to lower the water table or stabilise bores, unlike a micropile solution.
