Algarve Line (Tunes-Lagos)

66 helical piles 15 m long for the catenary pole foundations, through the Vale da Lama salt marsh.

For the modernisation and electrification of the Algarve Line, on the section between Tunes and Lagos, Rotopile built the catenary pole foundations with 66 helical piles, at a place known as Vale da Lama, in a salt marsh with very muddy ground.

The ground was demanding. To pass through the muds and reach load capacity at depth, the piles were Ø114.3 × 9.0 mm with three helices and 15 metres long. Four helical piles were used in each foundation block.
