Rows of installed helical piles for pipeline supports, Basra
Case Study

Oil Field Foundations in Iraq

Over 400 helical piles Ø219.1 mm for pipeline supports and tanks, in open desert.

In Basra, Iraq, one of the most oil-rich areas in the Middle East, robust foundations were delivered for a new pipeline and for tank foundations, on an oil field in the open desert.

It began with a careful review of the technical specifications and quality standards. The client toured the production facility in Finland and was convinced by the solution, the delivery schedule and the price.

Helical pile installation on an oil field, Basra

Over 400 helical piles were manufactured, each Ø219.1 mm, then shipped overland through Turkey to Iraq. The supply included installation consulting and Digga drive units. Piling went smoothly and pipeline construction could start right away.

The result was a clear saving over traditional concrete foundations. Helical piles work particularly well for surface-laid and buried pipelines: they go in fast and the total cost ends up well below other approaches, with a low carbon footprint and the option to reuse them.
