Hallanvahti Solar Park
71,000 helical piles on very soft peat, at Finland's second largest solar park.
In Joroinen, Finland, our Finnish operations delivered the foundations for the Hallanvahti solar park, the second largest in the country. It is 129 MW across more than 200 hectares, on very soft peat, on some of the most demanding ground a foundation can meet.
The solution was delivered as an integrated package: design, installation equipment and site logistics. Test piling and pull-out tests were already carried out on site in late 2024. The initial design was based on the available geotechnical data and then validated under real conditions; the pull-out results were used to refine and optimise the final design, combining technical reliability with cost efficiency.
The structures were solar trackers, which follow the sun and place specific demands on the foundations, particularly in tension and lateral loads. To match the wide variation in the soil across the site, several pile sizes were used.
In all, around 71,000 helical piles were supplied and installed. Turned in by rotation, with no excavation and no concrete, they could be installed over the soft peat with minimal disturbance and at a rate that suited the scale of the project.
